Nominations open for the 2011 CNN Heroes
Nominations can now be submitted for the 2011 CNN Heroes, which recognizes individuals who have made extraordinary accomplishments in their areas of work and have inspired others. The program recognizes such individuals through a grant support to scale up their work and also awards them at a ceremony which is broadcasted on CNN, giving them massive international publicity.
Following are the suggestions given by CNN to help make the nominations of such persons:
* “Think about what makes your hero special. Ask yourself: What makes my nominee unique? What specific accomplishment has he or she achieved that is truly remarkable? What impact has their work had on others? We encourage you to watch videos of previous CNN Heroes to familiarize yourself with the achievements of the inspiring individuals we honor as “everyday people changing the world.”
* Take a look at our nomination form. We suggest you review the information requested about yourself, your nominee and their work before filling out your submission.
* Tell us about your hero! Take your time and write from the heart. Remember: What you share — in your own words — is the most important factor in advancing a nomination for further consideration. You can enter your answers to the essay questions directly on the form, or write them first in a word-processing document and “cut-and-paste” them into each answer field. Please note that the information you provide will be used in accordance with our privacy policy.”
Nominations must be in the name of a single individual, at least 13 years of age, whose accomplishment occurred (or continued) after November 25, 2010. Nominees in the “Young Wonder” category must be 25 years of age or younger. Groups and organizations are ineligible for consideration. Self-nominations will not be accepted.
Nominations are to be submitted online. The deadline to submit nominations is 1 September 2011. For more information, visit this link.

Foundation Ensemble’s Small Grants Fund
Foundation Ensemble’s Small Grants Fund provides funding in the areas of animal biodiversity, water and sanitation and sustainable development. However, nearly 50% of this fund is focused upon supporting projects related to biodiversity such as protecting species of animals that are under threat and/or about to become extinct.
Unlike Program Fund, the Small Grants Fund of the Foundation represents the 15% of its annual endowment and it has no geographical priorities (proposals can be submitted from around the world).
Small and medium-sized NGOs are especially encouraged to apply to this Fund, but they need to ensure that they do not fall in the category of what the Foundation does not fund. Please read carefully the previously funded projects under this Fund at the Foundation’s website before applying.
The maximum amount of money that will be invested per project by the Foundation is 30,000 €. The Foundation can provide up to 50% of the total budget.
There are two separate application forms under this Fund. Projects relating to animal biodiversity have to use a different form and for other projects, the Small Grants form has to be used.
The deadline to submit proposals under the Small Grants Fund is 11 March 2011. For more information, visit this link.
