Introduction of BNI –
Basic Needs India (BNI) is a mental health agency with emphasis on rights and development approaches. BNI seeks to satisfy the essential needs of all people living with mental illness in India and to ensure that their basic rights are respected and fulfilled. The approach to health care is one that includes people living with mental illness in immediate and larger developmental processes, with the active participation of community members. The programme –
Community mental health and development programme in Orissa, started in 2008, is being implemented with eight NGO partners in seven district of Orissa. The programme aims at sustainable development of People living with mental illness (PLWMIs) and their families. The approach followed under the programme is unique as it build capacity of community and affected people as well as challenge government to protect and restore the human rights.
The position –
We are looking for a competent person for the post of Community Mental Health Coordinator, who will have specific responsibilities such as;
• Coordination of partner NGOs, follow up and field support to ensure highest standards are achieved in programme quality
• Report generation, documentation and analysis of those for evidence based advocacy
• Provide leadership to policy advocacy work at the state
• Take up initiative in conducting field researches
• Building capacity of partner organizations
• Leading the partners for realization of programme goal and BNI’s vision
• Line manage the senior staff members in the regional office and support development of individual staff members as well as the team
• Manage the finance and assets in the most cost effective manner
Skills, Experience and Qualification –
• At least 5 years experience / background in issues related to health / disability / mental health with substantial knowledge in management of community based development work with a range of NGOs
• Mature understanding of grassroots and national development policy issues with holistic knowledge of the economic, political and social environment
• Ability to mentor and monitor field teams through supportive supervision
• Ability to listen and communicate clearly and effectively with people from diverse cultures and backgrounds
• High level of enthusiasm and self-motivation
• Excellent spoken and written skill in Oriya & English language
• Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously, in a fast paced and dynamic environment
• Comfortable in use of MS Office (Word, Excel, Power-point), PDF, Internet, Email, etc. technologies
